Spring in the countryside is special. The rich earth softens and gives up its treasures–green shoots turn to flowers and trees wear new clothes. On April 1, 2013, I arrived at the Rouges-en-Verts Studio Gallery near the village of Soligny-La-Trappe in the bucolic Perche region of Normandy to do a two-month Artist-in-Residence stay. Visions of warm days painting al fresco were dashed on the very first morning when an unseasonable snowfall turned the countryside white. Spring took its time coming that year, but come it finally did and I documented the progress in these works all completed in the Rouges-en-Verts studio.
